In our Autumn Ginkō gallery, we included a fascinating series of abstracts haiga by Southern California artist Billie Dee. Billie returns to us with a new portfolio. Rather than deeply saturated colors layered like veils on black background, these feature plant-like forms in soft, delicate beige and earth tones. She writes that her goal in these experiments Is to find ways to de-intellectualize the image, reaching a deeper level of resonance without relying entirely on the words, and without slipping into visual sentimentality.

A former Poet Laureate of the National Library Service, Billie earned her doctorate at the University of California at Irvine, with post-graduate studies at UCLA. As a poet, she writes in many forms and is widely published. She is an active member of the AHApoetry forums and participates in the World Haiku Association's monthly haiga contests. More haiga, photo haiku and poetry may be found on her haiku blog, "Kiku Makura",
