Up one level

by Andrea Eldridge

As a pilot for American Airlines, Andrea Eldridge invites us into the cockpit at 35,000 feet for a unique perspective from the air. Her haiku has appeared in bottle rockets, Frogpond, and Heron’s Nest. Completing her MFA in Creative Writing, she recently published her first chapbook, on the fly, expects to grad-uate by finishing her memoir at the end of the year, and looks forward to see-ing her first experimental haibun in the next issue of Modern Haiku. However, she would prefer to be hiking on terra firma in Idaho with her dog, Lincoln.

You can read her personal essay, "Piloting Through the Pandemic: What it’s like to fly airplanes—when nobody is flying," detailing the time during which these photos and haiku were compiled, in the April 27, 2020 issue of Air & Space magazine.
