TRANSCENDENTAL HAIGA
by JAN TURNER, US

Jan, who lives in Virginia, first appeared in our pages in collaboration with her mother, Emily Romano. With a B.F.A. degree in studio arts, extensive reading, and credentials as a Reiki Master and Minister of the Essene New Life Church, she is a regular contributor to SP Quill (other poetry forms, flash stories and sometimes illustration), occasionally to White Lotus Magazine. Her chapbook, Reflections of The Inner Eye, was published by SP in August 2008 It includes both poems and illustrations of healing, spiritual growth and renewal. Another chapbook, due imminently, uses the lotus design in one of these haiga as its cover.

The haiga that we publish in this section have generally focused on the image for their experimental quality. Jan's portfolio is a little different. The three haiga employ though with abstract, metaphysical imagery in haiku form, arranged emphasis on typography and the arrangement of text. Further notes by the artist accompany each image.
