As an art form, haiga with senryu or kyoka rather than haiku offer an opportunity to "push the envelope" with exploration of edgier topics. Shortly after the conclusion of this year's Reichhold haiga contest (I was one of the judges) Autumn sent us a collection of haiga prompted by her interest in current issues in the news. In this series, the author intends to make readers "move beyond cringing to relate and maybe even self-examine and ask where dog whistling might slip into their own conversations unconsciously."
I am especially pleased to include her Yewllowstone haiga, which received photographic haiga honors ("Final Results: The Second Annual Jane Reichhold Memorial Haiga Contest", Failed Haiku, issue 23, p. 18). Enjoy it as the finale!
