THE CONSERVATION SERIES
WILDLIFE HAIGA by JUDI HALL and FABRIZIO "FUZ" CAFORIO

Artist, textile designer, writer and retired theoretical physicist, Judi lives with her husband Don in Alberta, Canada. Fuz, a designer, illustrator and internationally recognized wildlife artist, is in South Africa. They met through a mutual love of fabric design. As their internet friendship evolved they got into the habit of sending images of art back and forth, Fuz sharing his nature art, Judi her digital abstracts. The odd haiga got slipped in. These haiga lead to exploring the concept of using the few words of a haiku plus one of Fuz's paintings to evoke the state of an endangered species. Fuz describes his commitment to conservation this way:

"I've been a wildlife artist involved with nature conservation for more than twenty years. In this time, I have met so many incredibly selfless people dedicated to this cause. Working with them has been both humbling and inspiring. Awareness of the plight of our natural heritage continues to grow, as does my faith in humanity's ability to prevail. Combining Judi's haiku with my images to create haiga is a wonderfully refreshing way of highlighting and promoting the message of conservation."
