THE SEASONS AT WOODSLAWN FARM
by CAROL PURINGTON and MERRILL GONZALES, US
I've long known Carol's poetry, having come across her haiku and tanka in Heron's Nest, Simply Haiku, Tanka Online; etc. She has published several books, and a book of poetry for children is underway.
Recently I've also come to know Merrill, having admired her poems, drawings and Haiga in Reeds, at Blogging along Tobacco Road and Simply Haiku, as well as on Facebook, and I've enjoyed her spirited contributions to the discussions on the Haiku Foundation's website. What a treat, then, to receive a note asking if Haigaonline would be interested in a collaborative series by the two of them. I leaped at it.
Merrill, who lives in Connecticut, has been a friend of Carol for a long time. As she explained in a subsequent exchange, "When Carol sent me some wonderful tanka at the end of her e-mails to me, I started to get a picture of what the seasons have been for her up at her farm with her family in Massachusetts. . . Carol's spirit is so remarkable—it has sustained me for years."
I hope you will join me in giving both of them a warm welcome to Haigaonline.
